Scissortail HCM Easy Reporting Tools

April 1, 2018

I commonly hear from customers that customized reporting is challenging from needing to learn a new program or tool and having to be a database expert to find the information they need. Scissortail will save so much time by making reporting easy.

Scissortail HCM has an easy to use, common reporting engine across all applications. There are over 150 standard reports, here is a list of from HR, payroll, to timekeeping and system reports.

Let’s jump into Scissortail and open a standard report. We will use the Retirement Plans Report. From here we can use the report as is or it can be the foundation for building my own ad-hoc report. Either way, we will be utilizing the same easy to use interface, not a custom report writer. At the top of the reports you'll find different filters depending on the report. On this report I can filter by employee’s, create a saved list of employee filters that I use regularly, company groups, company profiles, or write my own Advanced filters. Also on this report have a date range where, in this case, we are using a calendar range of the last and current months. I can also write my own custom filters. I can also filter on the individual report, say I wanted to see everyone in the East Division I could filter here just as easily. I could also sort by that column as well and groups by it so that I could see everybody in a particular region and ungroup just as easily. In Selected Columns, in the left column I have all the fields available in the reports database. Next, I want to select the email address and I want to move it up towards the top of the report. I can reorder any of my columns using the arrow buttons to the side. I can see the email address here in the middle of the report. I can also drop a column from the report face. If I don't like a particular column label I can go under custom settings and modify the column names here. I can also adjust format, if I wanted my dates to be formatted differently, set default with alignment, adjust spacing, or select which columns I want to export. In Custom Settings I can also do a few other things, such as, I can write my own custom columns label them used to use the built-in functions that are available within the system and the default columns that are already available on the report. This would be useful if I wanted to add two fields together, concatenate fields, and various other functions. Custom Columns deserve a whole separate video since there's so much we can do. Here under Extra Settings this is where I can set a default if I want to always display the header and footer column names and totals on report. These are setting you'll typically want turned on for a report, but for an export I might need to turn them off. Once I get the report just like I want it I want to say the copy of it. Let go to Settings > Save Settings and I'm going to call this one ‘Brandi's Retirement Report’ and make it the default report that always shows up when I open this report. I still have all of the other versions of this report available to me, allowing me to flip between the different reports that I use for different purposes. I can also make this report available so others can run it. I have options to make it visible to others, say who it's visible to, make it available to everyone, or make it even a global default setting. I have an option to keep others from deleting the report. It can be delivered with payroll automatically. When I am ready to print or export the report I have many different formats available from a CSV to PDF. Let's go ahead and run a PDF and here's my retirement plans with headers on. If I ran it again with headers turned off I wouldn't see the band across the top or across the bottom of the report. I can also schedule a report to ‘run as a recipient’ to enforce the user’s security. The report can be setup to email me or others every Monday morning at 8 am. Here is where I can tell it to run it with my security or the recipient security. As I keep scrolling I can put on my email information. Here a copy of the last report that I got via email Monday morning. I can also add I can also add colorful diagrams for visual reports on my dashboard. With Scissortail HCM, you don't have to be a database expert or have external tools to get the data you need to do your job.
