The topic for this month’s meeting at the Tulsa Chapter of IMA was , “Management Accounting: A Profession at the Cross-Roads”. Our speaker, Marc P. Palker,
CMA is Chair-Elect of IMA’s Global Board of Directors for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. He also serves as chair of IMA’s Planning and Development Committee
and chair of the Nominating Committee.
The areas discussed during Mr. Palker’s presentation included,
(1) THE GOOD, those that are CMAs are in great demand and have the opportunity to serve in vital roles within many industries,
(2) THE BAD, there is currently a severe talent gap in the profession, what IMA prefers to call the Competency Crisis,
(3) THE NOT SO SURE, Is competition amongst global accounting associations good or bad for members and the profession at large?,
(4) THE PATH FORWARD, The future is bright for those in managerial accounting as they are being asked to take more active roles in guiding their organizations in areas like technology and business development.
