Error When Importing and Exporting Excel Timesheets and Files
Published on by Rhonda Siex in Blog Posts, CS3 Technology

In the last week, we have seen more and more clients get an error when trying to import Excel timesheets or attempting to create Excel export files to other programs.

This error is showing itself in both Sage products (accounting and HRMS).

The error (pictured below): “Unexpected error from external database driver” was caused by recent Windows Security updates.

Two possible resolutions have been found:
When speaking with Sage, the solution they are able to provide us at this time is to roll back the recent security updates on the affected workstations. There has not been an update from Sage regarding this item. Clients who have done this have seen the error resolve.

The Sage Knowledgebase link for this error referenced in this KB Link.

However, Microsoft has noted the issue on their website. Microsoft has provided a workaround for the error by downloading and installing the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable, and then modify DB connection strings in Microsoft Excel to use ACE as a provider. (Example: Change Provider=Mocrosoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 to Provider=Mocrosoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0)
