Linda Helms, SR. HR Specialist with Southwest Power Pool
(applause, applause, applause, applause)
The Service Pillar “Show up Ready for Work” is a great one. So many people just “show up” in order to get a paycheck at the end of the day. Others truly love their jobs and are eager to start each day and meet the challenges that almost always happen in a work environment, especially in HR.
Linda Helms, SR. HR Specialist with Southwest Power Pool, definitely fits in the eager category. That prompted me to chat with her a bit about this. I’ve known Linda for a while and can definitely say she is spot on in saying that. Linda is a pretty “low profile” type of person and was VERY reluctant to toot her own horn, in fact didn’t want me to nominate her at all, but I pushed her a little and asked her to right a quick blurb on what her day is like from the beginning to the end and here is what she said:
I love my job. I arrive on time each and every morning (most often before 8:00). Ready to go! I’m a coffee person and have the luxury – or the curse - of having the break room 20 feet from my office door (coffee lovers….imagine the aroma). Many days I don’t even get a chance to have a cup until 9:00 or 9:30 because when I arrive, I jump right in. I’ve had co-workers actually bring me a cup later in the morning, because they know how I roll – when I start, I’m like the energizer bunny and just keep going, and going, and going…..
Anyway, before I leave for the day, I make a list of things that I need to work on when I arrive the next day. This does a couple of things. Helps me stay organized, and if I were to be sick the next day I would know what I needed to pass on to someone else.
I would like to officially nominate Linda Helms for consideration of the “Show Up Ready for Work” service pillar, not because she identified with it, but because she is a true asset to Southwest Power Pool and they are very lucky to have someone with so much passion for her job, co-workers and the company as whole. Way to go, Linda.
