This month’s MGMA of Eastern Oklahoma meeting featured speaker Ms. Cori Loomis of Crowe & Dunlevy. Ms. Loomis is a Director in Crowe & Dunlevy’s business department and a member of their Healthcare, Administrative Regulatory and Employee Benefits & ERISA practice groups. Ms. Loomis graduated with distinction from the University of Oklahoma in 1991 and with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1994. The topic of her presentation was a review of many of the changes to HIPPA requirements over the last couple of years.
Some of those she highlighted included; the revision of the Standard Authorization Form, HHS Security Risk Tool (March 2014), Guidance on Sharing Mental Health Information (March 2014), HIPPA and Same-Sex Marriage, HIPPA Privacy in Emergency Situations, HIPPA Pandemic Issues, and expected HIPPA Audits nationwide which will include fifty (50) business associates and three hundred and fifty (350) entities such as providers and clearing houses.
I highly recommend joining your local MGMA if you are a healthcare professional. Each and every meeting brings great information on topics important to healthcare providers. Please see MGMA's website for more information.
