On June 19, 2010 Centennial Acres Golf Course in Sunfield, Michigan was the site of the 17th
Annual CASA for Kids, Inc., Barry & Eaton Counties Golf Scramble. The scramble itself, which is CASA for Kids, Inc.’s largest fundraising activity, is the culmination of weeks of work for the board, staff and volunteers involved, who sought out prize donors and sponsors for the outing. CS3 was a tee sign sponsor and CS3’s Judy Mast worked at the outing.
In addition to enjoying the fine golf course that Centennial Acres offers, golfers received a free lunch, door prizes and other gifts. In addition there was a silent auction, (Judy had the winning bid on an autographed Red Wings photo – Go Wings!) raffle and fifty-fifty drawing. The winning team, in addition to bragging rights, received free rounds of golf, embroidered towels acknowledging the win, and a free entry to next year’s outing.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. A CASA volunteer is sworn-in as an officer of the court, and is appointed to a case involving the abuse or neglect of a child in the court system. Usually, the child is in foster care. The volunteer meets with the child weekly, and advocates in court for their wishes and best interests and in essence becomes the "eyes and ears" of the court. CASA volunteers can make a real difference in a child's life. Judy Mast served as an advocate volunteer for six years and as a board member for the last 2½ years. She has been Treasurer of the organization for the last 11 months.
